[Poll] Features: Roleplaying / Points / Reputation

Roleplaying:
Roleplaying elements will add several features to the forum, including the use of dice-rolls and the generation of character sheets. For roleplayers this is particularly useful, but it often depends on the roleplayer in question as many are unused to numbered roleplaying. The rolls, however, can be used both within and without roleplaying to determine the outcome of certain actions or solve (joking) conflicts. Depending on the reception of this feature we might implement other parts of it, or might use it briefly for an event.

Points:
This system would allow the accumulation of currency on the forum, which can be donated or, with work, possibly used for other means.

Points generally will be accumulated based on activity, per friend made, per message posted and per category posted in. Points may also be given per day of login. The purpose has not yet been determined for this particular forum, most likely points will be awarded for events, with the most points being given some kind of reward.

Reputation
Reputation is a secondary currency gained by activity in the forum. It is granted by other members and given/taken per vote in polls. Initially this might seem like a popularity contest, but it might also serve to alert new members of the most active (or most long-active) members.

Please note that this poll does not necessarily indicate the features will be implemented soon. This is a test to see how well any one of these might be received by the general populace so I encourage all members to vote honestly. (:

Points would be my favorite idea 8D I've seen it used on many forums, for different things and people always love them.

Same with reputation! Plus it gives newcomers an idea of who can give them help if they are stuck on something, or can't figure out how something works on the forum. On some forums, when they got really big, that function came in very handy to help the mods not be overwhelmed by too many new people questions, that most likely already had an answer somewhere on the forums.

As for the RPG elements, i think they should be implemented, that way those that want to use them can, those that don't want to, well they don't necessairly need to. Gives users a choice :3

I think that the RPG system shouldn't be a permanent feature in this forum; since I don't think anyone will like to see RPs all over this forum because of the feature, RPs can stay in a section, but shouldn't take over the forum.

I vouch that during special events we can open up RPG functions. uvu)b

The roleplaying elements definitely sound interesting, but we should probably wait until roleplaying becomes a more common occurance on the site.

As for the Points and Reputation points.. I'm not a big fan.

To me, all they'd do is make it so people can pretend to be richer or more popular than others just because they've been here longer. We already have a top 20 posters list, if we want to see who's on frequently we can look there.

true, but it'd be interesting to have points though, point shops and such are just fun to play with, I mean I've been on a forum what just have the most random point shop items.

like... moebeam-proof-sunglasses.

it just shows up on your posts with the description that the user is equipped with this amazing pair of sunglasses, cuteness will not work on the user, the user is unstoppable.

Definitely seconding the point shop idea! I remember seeing it in some forums before, and it was kind of interesting seeing posts with candy, books, and underwear-- I MEAN--
It was kind of a limited-stock thing with the shop, too.

And I would also like personalized titles (which appear below the username and above the icon?). The ranking/popularity system might have more cons than pros, unfortunately.

I didn't think about that, getting points to buy little things to "wear" would be fun, especially if they all had derpy names like moe-proof sunglasses or rainbow mustaches or something. xD

But I'm a little confused about the personalized titles. o3o Would it just be an option on your profile to change the title to whatever you wanted like "Burger Lord" or "Flying Wombat" or something?

that's how it worked on a forum I was at long ago. If you had a high enough post count or enough "surrybucks" you could buy a funny title that you could change as you pleased.

I love roleplaying with dice. It's just really... really... REALLY fun for me!
Also the points might be really fun if we did get things like funny titles. Maybe even like... A silly hat to go on top of your avatar. I don't know.
I'm a bit against the reputation. We don't want people getting all high and mighty... It's great to be active in the site, but I don't know if having the members showcased is the best idea.

Due to the arguments against reputation, I'm actually leaning a bit towards doing away with the possibility of using it despite the poll numbers, but there are plenty of other people on this site that can vote xD

im actually against reputation as well, but the points shop would be cool. You could by funny title names and stickers to put on your profile pics. You could also have funny effects of the stickers like the moe-proof-sunglasses xD...

I think for the most people people will tend to support points the most. If any one of these get put on the forum first it'll be that. A point shop could also be easy to maintain if it's community driven.

Ohhh, now that's something I could go for! The way it was explained at the top made it sound similar deviantART's llama badges and how they rise a premade set of ranks if you had a certain number of them. So only the most popular people would get the "rank names."

Points and RPG. I've seen rep systems on a few other sites and they have a tendency to get out of hand and are usually removed later anyway. I think it may be best to avoid implementing such a feature.
